Gollys, Gollywogs and Country Rag Dolls

The Golliwog

The Golliwog was originally a character from a story book written by Florence Kate Upton in 1895 entitled The Adventures of Two Dutch Dolls and based on a black minstrel doll.

Early golliwog dolls were rag dolls made with bright colored fabrics and yarn.

Robertson Jams and preserves featured a golliwog in its trademark from 1910 to the 1990s.
